The Paje Village Tour (1.5–2 hours) is a cultural experience that offers a glimpse into the heart of local life. The tour takes you through different parts of the village and its surroundings. You'll see how people live, work, and interact — and learn more about everyday life in Zanzibar.
Highlights include visiting a seaweed farm, seeing how natural soaps are made at the seaweed factory, watching coconut processing, and stopping by Paje Primary School. Along the way, you’ll also get a chance to taste some local snacks — or even book an optional home-cooked dinner with a local family for a deeper experience (see below).
This tour is an example of a community-based tourism initiative, meaning it’s designed by the community and for the community. A portion of your payment goes directly back into the village, supporting local families and small businesses.

Hi, my name is Adam — your guide for the Paje Village Tour!
Born and raised in the heart of Paje, I’ve spent most of my life by the ocean, working as a passionate kitesurfer and instructor. Over time, I noticed that many visitors were curious about the local way of life beyond the beach. That is what inspired me to start sharing my village, culture, and personal stories with travelers like you.
Through this tour, I’ll take you beyond the typical tourist spots and offer a glimpse into the real Zanzibar — its traditions, daily life, and the warm spirit of the people. Whether you're here for the adventure or the connection, I look forward to showing you a side of Paje that few get to experience.

Want a deeper cultural experience? After the village tour, enjoy an early home-cooked dinner with a local family — a warm and delicious way to connect with the community. This tour starts at 4:30 PM and ends with a shared meal featuring traditional Zanzibari flavors.
